Trainer Tip #20: How much protein do you really need?

Let’s be honest: there’s a lot of confusing data about protein.

What’s not confusing is time- and science-backed research.

The IOM (Institute of Medicine) recommends getting 10-35% of your total calories from protein.

One gram of protein is equal to 4 calories.

For a person who consumes 1800 calories a day, this equates to 45g – 158g protein needed per day.

(1800*.10/4 = 45 and 1800*.35/4 = 157.5)

Obviously, adjust according to your personal needs and always adhere to your doctor or nutritionist’s recommendations.
