Friday (re)Flections

My (running) soul has been renewed.  It was 57 degrees this morning.  57!!  Thank you, Jesus!

I’ve never been so happy to have my Raynaud’s kick in.  Raynaud’s Disease is a condition that causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers and toes — to feel numb and cold in response to cold temperatures or stress.   I’ve found I’m most affected when my core gets chilled, so this can happen even in the middle of the summer if I come back dripping wet and don’t change my shirt quickly enough.   When it’s 57 and you’re sporting a tank, yep, the core cools for a bit before warming up.  I’ll take it.  These white fingers didn’t last long.

What is it about cooler weather that makes me embrace this view?  A week ago it would have me cursing under my breath.  Today — I just wanted to open my arms and lift my chin to welcome it in.

I was due for some yoga but I just couldn’t resist the running weather.  Instead, I promised myself I would self-care by stretching and rolling for twenty minutes.  I picked this Trigger Point STK up at the fitness conference I attended a month ago.  Wow.  Pain and relief all in one funny looking product.  I don’t get the physiology of this, but if I stand on it with my arches, I feel release all the way up to my lower back.  I don’t understand how smartphones work, either, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate them.  Same thing.

Even Grace felt the reprieve.  One biker who passed us commented on my happy dog.  And while she normally comes home and looks like this …

… she wanted to sunbathe and look for squirrels to chase.

Happy Friday!  I hope weather in your part of the world allows you to enjoy it outside.
