Trainer Tip #4: Counteract the effects of your phone and computer

Introducing Trainer Tips: Short, easily digestible tips to help train your body, mind, and spirit.

Inspired by the process of obtaining my NASM Personal Trainer certification, I’m passing on weekly tidbits to help you find your own balanced health.

Trainer Tip #4:

Thanks to our digital society, our computers and phones have us hunched over most of the day. This creates a syndrome called upper-crossed syndrome, characterized by a forward head and rounded shoulders.

Ways to counteract this:

  • Stand up straight
  • Sit up straight
  • Raise your phone to eye level
  • Strengthen the mid muscles in your back (Rhomboids, Mid-and lower trapezius)
  • Lie perpendicular on a foam roller and open up your arms (not recommended for those with back issues).
