Considering a hysterectomy? Types, Reasons, Risks and Burning Questions Answered!

I am so thankful for this community and your feedback. I will always take content suggestions but every now and then open the floor on our Facebook Community Group about topics they’d like covered.

One topic that you are asking more of is related to women’s health.

Today is the first of a two part series on an under-discussed part of women’s health: hysterectomies.

Erika Rucker, who is a Physician’s Assistant with the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center, is here to educate us on different types of hysterectomies, reasons for needing them, the impact on hormones and body composition, and what kinds of questions to discuss with your provider. This is not a cancer-focused conversation at all, so if you’ve been wondering if a hysterectomy is right for you or your medical provider has suggested it, this is a must listen.

This week focuses on decisions about and what to know before surgery; next week is with Physical Therapist Jessica Valant and she will take us through recovery and what you need to know to feel better.

Erika Rucker is a Physician’s Assistant with MD Anderson. You may remember Jenna Unke from the episode entitled “How do I know if something’s not right down there?” When I was searching for someone to come on and educate us, I reached out to Jenna and am so thankful she connected us. Erika was a high school science teacher before becoming a Physician’s Assistant and has been with MD Anderson’s Gynecologic oncology department for 5 years. She and her husband have two children and she recently started a balloon and decorating business.

Speaking of all the muscles “down there”…

I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had with friends over the last six months that revolve around peeing while sneezing, coughing, or doing any high impact movements. One friend said when she walks too much her insides feel like they are dropping out and another has to be close to a bathroom at all times. Every time I tell them the same thing: you’ve got to get the Tighten Your Tinkler program.

You may remember my delightful conversation with the Tighten Your Tinkler girls, Jenn Lormand and Christina Walsh which was full of laughter about a heavy subject, pelvic floor health. I’ve personally gone through the program and am pleased to report I don’t have to stop and cross my legs when I sneeze anymore and even my nighttime bathroom trips have reduced. Look, I consider this an all-nighter! My nagging lower back issue is significantly better as well thanks to the program and tools they provided.

If you deal with any of these issues or more serious ones like prolapse, discomfort during or after intimacy, or need to get everything back in place after a hysterectomy, this program is for you. We want you to take back control of your body and regain your confidence. Jenn and Christina are the women you want in your corner and they’ve generously offered $50 off using the code GRACEDHEALTH. If you haven’t listened to our episodes, check them out below. As a bonus, this program is FSA and HSA eligible. Enroll here and use GRACEDHEALTH for $50 off.
